A delicious appetiser or snack!

This crispy tofu is incredible. Have it as an appetiser, a cheeky snack with your favourite dipping sauce or pop it in your favourite bowl of rice or noodles.

So easy to make and full of flavour. Check out the tips section so you get it just right :-)

This one's a great chicken nugget alternative for the kiddies!

How do we do it?

I absolutely love tofu as it is so versatile, you can do so much with it and cook it so many ways! Breaded and fried is an absolute win with pretty much anything so check out this flavoursome tofu recipe.

Recipe - Makes around 12 bites

  • 1/2 Cup Cornflour

  • 1 tsp BBQ Seasoning

  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika

  • Pinch of Salt

  • Pinch of Pepper

  • 1/2 Cup Plant Milk

  • 1 Block Firm Tofu (I use Cauldron)

  • 3 Cups Panko Breadcrumbs

  • 2 Tbsp Olive/Coconut Oil

Method

1. Remove tofu from packaging and ensure all water is drained and pressed out of it. I usually wrap mine in kitchen towel and put a heavy board on top. Once pressed, cut into square pieces and set aside.

2. In a bowl, prepare your batter by mixing the cornflour, bbq seasoning, garlic, paprika, salt, pepper and plant milk together. Mix well with a whisk to get rid of any lumps.

3. Heat oil in a non stick pan.

4. Take a square of tofu at a time, dip to cover fully in the batter then on a separate plate sprinkle panko breadcrumbs to cover each side of the square. Once fully covered, place the tofu in the pan and fry.

5. Repeat process until all pieces of tofu are covered and frying. Turn each piece to ensure each side of the tofu square is cooked until golden brown.

6. Remove from pan and serve as a snack with your favourite dipping sauce or add to your meal.

Tips

I found that is works best to keep the batter and panko breadcrumbs separate when covering the tofu. So ensure you have a separate plate to sprinkle the breadcrumbs onto the tofu rather than rolling in the breadcrumbs and causing a bit of a sticky mess on the plate when you go to cover the next piece of tofu!

Use a good non-stick pan so the tofu can easily move and you can turn it to equally fry all sides.
